However, luckily careers in landscape design architecture are going strong. Simply because there are many people who are still willing to spend money on their own comfort. This of course includes their yards or businesses, making it a wise career decision to take on landscape design or landscape architecture courses in college.

If you have decided that a career in landscape architecture is the right path for you. There are many things to consider. First and foremost you must have the appreciation of nature and the beauty that it holds. It is also of the utmost importance that you have an innate ability to create, and see the broad picture before taking a step in this career path. Simply because it can take loads of creativity to create that perfect outdoor living space for customers. Remember: this isn’t a job for the light-hearted who don’t want to get dirty! You will need to get your hands dirty and your feet wet to make it in this field.

While creativity and the love of nature are usually a given topic of thought in landscape architecture. Many people fail to see the bigger picture. You will also need to have an affinity for engineering as well as skills in researching and the written word. Why? Well there are many different reasons why you will need these skills. Some of which are because there is a lot of thought and technical attributes to the analysis and design of a landscape. Which is often times the only downfall of someone not succeeding int his flourishing business. You should also keep in mind that you must be ambitious in this work field! Not to mention the large possibility of travel to the job-site. Simply because you won’t always have the option to work remotely if you go to work for a landscape architecture corporation. However, there are other possibilities in time-management with a career in landscape architecture.

To help with time management many people will take the risk of starting up their own company. While this is always a brilliant idea for a seasoned landscape design architect; it isn’t always the wisest choice right out of college. Take the time to learn from your peers and elders in the field before branching out on your own. This will help to ensure that any and all knowledge that is available on landscape architecture can be learned. Simply because not all schools will offer on-the-job training that you may find helpful.

Once you are out of college, you will find that you will be bombarded by the tasks that are required of a landscape design architect. Making it extremely important that you be ambitious, and a go-getter from the start. While yes, you will be participating on-location; you will find yourself stuck behind a desk a good portion of the time trying to lay out the perfect design. F Most of the time you won’t be participating in the actual project until it has been approved by the seniors or supervisors on your design team. However, with some of the constraints that you might face. There is quite a bit of freedom in the world of landscape architecture. Some of the architects are even able to supervise and direct the installation of their designs. Allowing them to enjoy the fruits of their labor. When deciding to go to school for your career in landscape architecture, you may be surprised exactly how much goes into your training. Simply because you can’t just waltz right in and ask or a job in this profession. It takes years of training, with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. However many companies will only look into hiring those who have a masters degree in landscape architecture. Simply because you are able to attain much more knowledge in the following years of classes for your masters.

While this might all seem like quite a lot all in of itself, it isn’t the last step of getting your dream career in landscape architecture. It is a long and bumpy road to get everything you will need for your new career. Some of which being your degree, your licensing, hands on training, as well as a journeyman position under a skilled and licensed landscape architect. While all of these aren’t necessity, it will help to insure that you get the position that you wish to obtain. Remember, once all of this is completed you will need to take (and pass) the L.A.R.E. Otherwise known as the Landscape Architect Registration Examination. Which will help you to practice your landscape architecture legally as a certified professional. While it is possible to practice landscape architecture without following these paths. They can and will help for you to obtain more lucrative positions in the field.

Now that you have a better understanding of the training required for a career in landscape architecture. It is time to consider the many different positions that are available for you to choose from. Since there are many different associated skills that you will learn throughout school. There are numerous different positions for you to pick and choose from. While architecture is a large part of your training, you may even choose to look into landscape design as a career as well. Want something else? Why not civil engineering or urban planning? There are many a different field to choose from. Making this either the easiest or possibly the hardest choice of your life. However, all of which will be answered once you have gone through your training. Simply because one part or another will stand out above all else in your schooling.

In short, with all of your training you may very well have a bright future in the career of your dreams. You very well might find that you will be stuck in the hum-drum field of decorating a rich person’s back yard. However, there are always means of turning those positions to your advantage. While it might not be the pick of the litter in your career path, it will show on your resume as an impressive incentive to hire you for more lucrative jobs.

What are some of the more lucrative jobs you might ask? Well, some of the potential jobs you can find yourself working on are wetlands, mountain resorts or ski lodges, maybe even local zoos. All of which will help you to create an over-all appearance for very high-class clientele. However, to get these high-paying and more lucrative positions you will need to start from the ground up in your career of landscape architecture.

One thing you mind find when starting in this line of work, is that more than twenty percent of all landscape architects are considered to be self employed. While this is a brilliant move for many, it isn’t always going to be the best choice for you. Like stated previously, it is always better to get some real job experience under your belt; prior to breaking off on your own. Simply so you aren’t stuck with low or mediocre contracts throughout your career as a landscape architect.

It is also very possible to get work with the government. Often times allowing you to get into the thick of it with any and all federal jobs that need to be completed. While these jobs aren’t always the best paying, they can and will help to give your resume the umph that it needs to get through to your next, and bigger position in the landscape architecture world.

While that might seem like a lot to many, once you reach your milestones of experience you can pull in much more. The averages of salary based pay ranges from fifty three thousand (and some change) all the way to seventy seven or a hundred thousand per year. Making this business a lucrative and money savvy way to making ends meet.

First and foremost while you aren’t always required to be licensed. There are a growing number of states that are now requiring a landscape architect to be certified and licensed to take more lucrative jobs.

Not only that, but you must be prepared to fight for your one-up! As with any other career, you will need to get your foot in the door with a major corporation to get the experience you need. While you might find yourself attracted to one part of landscape architecture. It is always good to increase your resume with professional jobs, no matter how meager they may seem to you.

Lastly, and more importantly. You should enjoy your field of work! Chances are if you aren’t enjoying the schooling. You may not find a career in landscape architecture to be very fulfilling. However; there are many landscape designers and architects that would gladly stop their lives to continue in their careers.
